Frequently asked questions.
-
When should I start introducing solids to my baby?In Australia, it’s recommended to start introducing solids no earlier than 4 months and no later than 7 months of age. Most babies are ready between 5.5 and 6.5 months. Before introducing solids to your baby's diet, always consult with your GP or paediatric nutritionist.
-
What are the signs that my baby is ready for solids? Some signs of readiness include sitting with minimal support, good head and neck control, and showing interest in food.
-
When should I start introducing allergens to my baby?Introduce allergenic foods at around 6 months, when baby is developmentally ready for solid foods (not before 4 months). Common allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, wheat and soy should be introduced by baby's first birthday.
-
Why is it important to introduce allergens?Research shows that early and regular exposure to allergens can help reduce the risk of your baby developing food allergies.
-
What should I do if my baby has an allergic reaction? It’s important to know the symptoms of mild, moderate and severe allergic reactions and respond accordingly. The Solid Steps First Foods & Allergens Fridge Magnet includes a section on When to Seek Help for severe allergic reactions and choking.
-
How does the Solid Steps First Foods & Allergens Tracker work?Simply place the Solid Steps First Foods & Allergens Tracker on your fridge for easy access during mealtime. As you introduce new foods to your baby, use the included whiteboard marker to tick off what they’ve tried, note any reactions, and track allergens safely. This magnet helps you stay organised, diversify your baby’s diet, and confidently navigate the weaning journey.
-
Why is tracking first foods important for my baby?During the first 1000 days, from conception to baby's second birthday, baby's brain and body develop rapidly, making nutrition crucial for lifelong health. A balanced diet, including a variety of foods from all food groups, is essential. The Solid Steps First Foods & Allergens Tracker makes this process simple by allowing you to log each new food, track allergens, and ensure your baby is getting a diverse and nourishing diet for lifelong health.
-
What makes Solid Steps different from other baby food trackers?Solid Steps stands out from other baby food trackers with its dedicated Nuts & Seeds section for introducing tree nuts one by one, a clear Allergens section with space for notes for tracking potential reactions, and a When to Seek Help section for knowing when to take action—giving parents confidence and peace of mind during their baby's food journey.
-
Can I customise the tracker for my baby's needs? The Solid Steps First Foods & Allergens Tracker features a dedicated Other foods area to add your own foods, along with an Allergens section that includes space to note any allergic reactions and track your baby's response with ease.
